Looking for the best battery for the electric car

It is obvious to anyone that electric cars do not cause emissions and are therefore looked upon favourably by members of the public who are concerned about the future of the planet. However, when talking about carbon footprint, we have to take account of all the impacts: the impact from their use, as well as that generated by making and recycling batteries. This is why Industrias Alegre decided to take part in this project, which is aimed at improving the performance of batteries for electric cars and minimising their impact.

The project - called DETEBAT-VE - came about as part of Mobility Innovation Valencia, led by the Instituto CMT-Motores Térmicos of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and run with the involvement of companies including ours. It has a very well-defined objective: a technology demonstrator must be created for a battery pack for electric vehicles. This demonstrator will enable the development and validation of the best technologies to manufacture batteries designed for the automotive industry, increasing their range, safety and sustainability.

The creation of this space for the study of batteries is of strategic importance to the automotive industry in Europe, because currently the majority of the knowledge on this subject comes from the East and is in the hands of companies that have little or nothing to do with the industry.

So far, the project has published an initial analysis determining that an electric SUV emits less CO2 (indirectly) than the same vehicle with a gasoline engine would emit through its exhaust pipe.

DETEBAT-VE is a programme of the Valencian Innovation Agency (AVI) and is co-financed by the European Union through the ERDF Programme.
